Colby repeats as GWAC Wrestling champions

Colby, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–For the fifth time in seven years of the GWAC, the top team in the Great West Activities Conference has remained the same. Saturday, the Colby Eagles remained on top of the league, going undefeated. For the second straight year, Scott City finishes runner-up and Goodland took third place. In what is consindered a surprise, Holcomb gets their highest finish in school history in the conference with a fourth place finish, defeating Ulysses on the final match of the tournament. 

Five area individuals took home league championship status. Scott City put three of them on the top of the awards stand, as Justus McDaniel was the champion at 113, Jarret Jurgens at 152, and Wyatt Hayes took the 160 pound weight class. Hugoton’s Pedro Ordonez was the champion at 138, and Chance Rodriguez took the gold at 170. Jurgens, Hayes, Ordonez and Rodriguez were repeat winners.
