Man Charged With Arson During Domestic Disturbance

Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) Saturday night around 6:30 emergency responders in Garden City received a call of a structure fire on the 16-hundred block of Julie Street. When they arrived police and fire saw a man setting fire to the house while children were still inside. Police say a trash can was lit on fire while pushed up against the residence.

Investigators found the suspect 30 year old Martin Garcia who they believe was upset during a domestic dispute and set fire to several different items in the house including a large mattress. Garcia is also accused of using a kitchen knife against a 50 year old woman who lived in the home. Garcia will likely face charges of making a criminal threat, aggravated arson and aggravated assault.
