Holcomb receives safe route to school grant

Bryant & Bryant Construction of Halstead will begin work on a Safe Routes to School project in Holcomb this week. The project will create a comprehensive sidewalk system throughout the community increasing the safety and walkability of Holcomb for children and adults alike.

Sidewalks will be added to several areas including the south side of Railroad Avenue from Sonny Baird Lane to Main Street, then north across the railroad tracks to connect with the sidewalk on the east side of Main Street. Sidewalk will be added along Taylor Jones Road from Larson Lane to Lynch Street, then South on Lynch Street to Anna Avenue and east to Wiley Elementary School. Sidewalk will also be added on the south side of Jones Avenue from approximately 401 Jones Avenue to Tyler Drive. A handicap crossing will be added at Henderson Street and JoElla and a bulb-out crossing will be added to the school crossing on Main Street.

This $300,000 project is funded by a Safe Routes to School grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation and includes a 20% match from the City of Holcomb.
