Lady Beaver volleyball starts week off with sweep at Hill City

Hill City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–With sub-state on the horizon, the Scott City Lady Beaver volleyball team got their week started off right on Tuesday in Hill City, taking down the host school 25-20, 25-17, and then knocking off Logan in straight sets 25-18, 25-13.

In their first match of the day, it was a battle early on with the Hill City Lady Ringnecks. The Lady Beavers were pushed to the end in the first set but prevailed 25-20. Scott City would pull away in the second set winning 25-17. Emily Smith led the attack with seven kills, while Lyndi Rumford added four and Jera Drohman & Jalynn Habiger had three apiece. Habiger had 17 assists.

It would be a quick turnaround, as Scott City would take on the No. 10 team in Class 1A, DII in Logan. Just as quick of turnaround as it was between matches, it would be a quick match for the Lady Beavers. They would take the first set 25-18, and were never challenged in the second, coasting to a 25-13 win. Emily Smith and Emily Weathers led the way with four kills apiece, while Jalynn Habiger had 17 assists and Macie Price added two service aces.

Scott City will be the second seed in the TMP-Marian Sub-State on Saturday. They will take on Norton, the seventh seed at approximately 3 pm at Al Billinger Fieldhouse. The Lady Beavers are 24-12 on the year, while Norton is the seventh seed with a 9-24 record. TMP is the top seed with a 35-2 record.
