Red Demon girls roll, boys fall against Great Bend

Dodge City, KS(westernkansasnews.com) The Dodge City basketball teams split with Great Bend Friday night. The girls won 44-31 to sweep the Lady Panthers. The boys fell 70-60 to split the season series.

Girls

The Lady Red Demons overcame a slow start after falling behind 8-1 and starting 0-13 from the field. Dodge City was able to outscore Great Bend 11-4 in the second quarter and 17-12 in the third to seize control.

The Lady Red Demons(10-8, 4-2) shot just 13-49 from the field for 27 percent, but were 15-20 at the foul line. They also held the Lady Panthers to just 11-47 shooting for 23 percent. Dodge City won the rebounding battle 43-35 and grabbed 17 offensive rebounds.

Chidera Okoro led the way for the lady demons scoring in double figures for the sixth straight game with 14 points and 7 rebounds. Brianna Buller played for the first time in four games and provided a spark off the bench with 8 points and 5 rebounds. Ezinne Okoro added 4 points 13 rebounds and 6 steals. Carley Brack led the way for Great Bend(3-15, 1-5) with 14 points.

Boys

Dodge City started the game hot jumping out to a 22-12 lead at the end of the first quarter, but things turned quickly. The Panthers cut the lead to 31-26 at halftime and had a huge third quarter outscoring the Red Demons 23-10 to take a 49-41 lead, from there Great Bend never looked back.

The Panthers shot 8-21 from three, 18-50 from the field and 26-42 at the foul line. Dodge city was just 20-53 from the field and 14-23 at the foul line. Great Bend(4-14, 2-4) also won the rebounding battle 45-34. There were 57 fouls in the game.

Peyton Duvall led the Panthers with 19 points. Ty Esfeld had a big night with 15 points and 15 rebounds and Alex Schremmer had 14 points. Noah Sowers led the way for Dodge City(9-9, 2-4) with 19 points and 4 rebounds. Adrian Mendoza had 12 points on 4-8 from three.
