Lieutenant Colonel Robert J. Darling To Speak To GCHS Students

Lieutenant Colonel Robert J. Darling, author of the book “24 Hours inside the President’s Bunker, 9/11/01: The White House,” will be speaking to Garden City High School students at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, March 9th, in the GCHS auditorium. Lieutenant Colonel Darling will be providing the keynote address at the 131st Garden City Area Chamber of Commerce Banquet that will be held on Thursday, March 8th.

Most of the students at Garden City High School were not even born when the terrorist events of September 11th took place. Lieutenant Colonel Darling will bring his unique prospective to the students on those historical events that took place on that day.

On September 11, 2001, Lieutenant Colonel Darling was working in the White House Military Office and was initially tasked to coordinate airlift assets for the President’s evacuation to an undisclosed site. However, he was quickly recruited to provide his military expertise and became a key liaison between the Vice President, National Security Advisor and the Pentagon and worked directly with the National Command Authority to respond to the terrorist attacks. Lieutenant Colonel Darling witnessed firsthand the enormity of the crisis leadership decisions that were made that day on behalf of all Americans. Lieutenant Colonel Darling speaks to business and community leaders across the country on crisis management and the skills needed to be an effective leader in today’s world.
