Kobach dominates straw poll among GOP Governor candidates

LEAVENWORTH (June 25, 2018) – For the second time in a week, Kansas Secretary of State and candidate for governor Kris Kobach dominated a straw poll with a majority of votes, despite a crowded field of candidates. On Saturday, Kobach garnered 56 percent of the votes cast during the Leavenworth County GOP picnic. His nearest competitor, Jeff Colyer, received 22 percent.

“Voters recognize that Wink Hartman and I are the only consistent conservatives in the race. We are grateful to grassroots Republicans for showing us such overwhelming support,” Kobach said.

Here are Saturday’s straw poll results:
Kobach — 56%
Colyer — 22%
Selzer — 10%
Ruzich — 9%
Barnett — 3%
Kucera — 0%

The massive win was the second in a week. The Kobach-Hartman ticket notched a significant straw poll win a week earlier after a forum in Parsons.

Parson’s straw poll results:
Kobach — 51%
Selzer — 19.5%
Colyer — 17%
Barnett — 8.5%
