A’s trounce El Dorado to take weekend series

Dodge City, KS(westernkansasnews.com) The Dodge City A’s behind a stellar performance from Robert Gonzalez on the mound handled the El Dorado Broncos Sunday night 7-0, winning three of the four game weekend series.

Gonzalez(2-0) pitched a complete game shutout striking out 11 and allowing just four hits.

The A’s also got going early offensively with an RBI double from Owen Jansen in the bottom of the first. Dodge City then added another run in the second on an RBI double from Carlos Arrellano to make it 2-0.

Things were quiet for a while for both teams until Jansen led off the bottom of the sixth with a solo homerun to stretch the lead to 3-0. In the eighth inning the A’s added four more runs for good measure starting with a solo homerun by Conner Van Cleave. Casey Opitz then delivered an RBI single and two-run double from Arrellano made it 7-0.

Jansen led the A’s at the plate going 3-4 with a homerun, double, single and two RBI. Arrellano went 2-4 with two doubles and three RBI.

The win gives the A’s(21-12) a two game lead over Liberal(19-14) in the Jayhawk league standings. Dodge City has won nine of their last ten games and will play at Great Bend Monday night at 7 p.m.
