🔊 Garden City drops to 0-2 with 38-26 loss to Valley Center (Post-game and Stats)

Garden City came up short on their first road test of the season falling 38-26 to the Valley Center Hornets in Valley Center.

It was a rough start for the Buffaloes who saw Valley Center’s Kaleb Harden find slot receiver Caden Holle for a 64-yard touchdown less than a minute into the first quarter to take a 7-0 lead. Garden City would have a special teams mistake on the kickoff, letting the ball bounce on the turf, Hornets would come up with it and score two plays later on a Marion Ponds nine-yard touchdown run to make it 14-0.

Garden City answered with two Josh Janas touchdowns in the second quarter, but an interception by Buffalo quarterback Carlos Acosta cost Garden City three points at the end of the half. Buffaloes trailed Valley Center 24-12 at halftime.

Turnovers and mental mistakes cost Garden City in the second half. Garden City totaled 6 turnovers in the game including four interceptions and two fumbles. Add in Marion Ponds’ 148 rushing yards and three touchdowns, and Garden City could not overcome the deficit despite playing Valley Center to a 14-14 push in the second half.

Garden City falls to 0-2 and will take on Hutchinson next week at Buffalo Stadium
