Two transients arrested on drug possession charges

Garden City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–A high-risk traffic stop by the Garden City Police Department resulted in the arrest of two transients.
 
On Wednesday, Officers of the Garden City Police Department and the Garden City/Finney County Joint Drug Task Force conducted a high-risk traffic stop in the 3400 block of E. Spruce Street.
 
Officers made contact with 48-year-old transient Kelly Deremus and 30-year-old transient Shelby Deremus as part of an ongoing investigation. Officers had prior knowledge that Kelly Deremus had an active warrant. Upon further investigation, a search of the vehicle was conducted. Multiple narcotics were seized to include fentanyl, methamphetamine, marijuana, and counterfeit oxycodone pills. Kelly Deremus and Shelby Deremus were arrested at the scene.
 
Due to the location and known history of Kelly Deremus, Victor Ornelas Elementary School and Charles O. Stones Intermediate Center were placed on lockdown as a precaution. The schools were in lockdown for around five minutes.
 
Kelly Deremus was lodged in the Finney County Jail on the following charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Stimulants, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Ignition Interlock, Finney County District Court warrant of Fleeing and Eluding/Driving Under the Influence.
 
Shelby Deremus was lodged in the Finney County Jail on the charges of Possession of Stimulants and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
