Eight Straight! Broncbusters WBB Blasts Pratt to Remain Unbeaten

GARDEN CITY, KS. – First year coach Greg Franklin mentioned that practices out of Thanksgiving were tough, lethargic.

The Broncbusters had to sit and wait an extra day on Saturday, following a rescheduling due to this weekend’s winter storm.

The second the tip soared into the air, it didn’t look like Garden City had been lethargic at all. In fact, energetic, for an eighth straight time.

The Garden City Broncbusters took home another victory on Sunday, destroying the Pratt Beavers, 96-69, at Conestoga Arena. Garden City has now won their three conference games by a margin of 26.3 points per contest.

“I’m happy to see our kids getting the dividends of practicing so much,” Franklin said.

Garden City’s (8-0, 3-0 KJCCC) returning sophomore sparked the Broncbusters in the first half. Yancy started the game with 11 first-quarter points, going three-of-four from downtown.

Yancy already tied her previous career-high of 20 at halftime, hitting five triples in the first half. Three Broncbusters scored in double-figures in the first half, guard Sierra ‘C.C.’ Driessen also pitched in 10.

“I think the biggest thing is getting the ball to the right spots and executing,” Franklin said. 

Pratt’s duo of Princess Anderson and wing Isis Sanders also both scored in double-figures, as the Beavers (5-2, 1-2 KJCCC) stayed in the game with four and-ones in the first half.

The second half saw Garden City dominate the offensive glass. The game transitioned form the guards of Yancy and Driessen to the forwards of Antonicia Moultrie and Ana Ramos Pires.

Moultrie was phenomenal, grabbing nine offensive rebounds in the game, helping Garden City stretch the lead from 13 at the end of the third to as much as 22 in the fourth.

“I just go down and work, do what I have to do,” Moultrie said. “After Thanksgiving, we were putting in work.”

Ramos Pires, who sat out most of the first half due to foul trouble, scored eight points in the fourth quarter to help GCCC pull away.

The Broncbusters will face their biggest test of the season on Wednesday, as they travel to Concordia to face the Cloud County Thunderbirds. Coverage from Arley Bryant Gym begins at 5:40 P.M. on KWKR 99.9 ‘The Rock’. Tipoff between the Broncbusters and Thunderbirds is scheduled for 6:00 P.M.
