COFFEYVILLE, KS. – Nellis Hall can be an unforgiving place to play. Each mistake for visitors in Coffeyville can add up, teams have to be on their ‘A game’ in Southeast Kansas.

Garden City didn’t bring their best, and were made to pay for the second-straight game.

The Garden City Broncbusters were suffocated on Saturday, losing to the No. 23 Coffeyville Red Ravens, 54-45, at Nellis Hall in Coffeyville. The 45 points were the Broncbusters’ fewest tally in a game under new head coach, Greg Franklin.

The loss marked the first time that the Broncbusters have lost consecutive games all season.

Coffeyville (11-3, 7-2 KJCCC) held their first five opponents this season under 50 points per game, and looked on pace for that after the first. The Red Ravens held the Broncbusters to just seven first-quarter points, the lowest tally of any quarter all season by Garden City.

The Broncbusters opened the day just three-of-16 from the floor, allowing the Red Ravens to lead by six after one.

Coffeyville’s trio of Ivy Fox, Kyleigh Ortiz, and Bailey Layman helped balloon the lead to double-figures, with Fox assisting a layup right before the end of the half. The three combined for 26 of Coffeyville’s 34 first-half points.

Garden City (10-4, 5-4 KJCCC) hit just two three-pointers in the first half, but nailed a pair in the final 90 seconds of the third quarter to cut the lead to seven. Sariah ‘Boxer’ Conley and Sierra ‘C.C.’ Driessen each swished triples to bring the lead back down to seven going into the fourth.

Shots just wouldn’t fall down the stretch for GCCC. A late three-pointer by Ortiz salted the game away inside the final 2:30, handing the Broncbusters their second road loss of the year.

The Broncbusters return home for one game next week, hosting the Barton Cougars at Conestoga Arena on Wednesday Night. Coverage on KWKR 99.9 ‘The Rock’ begins at 5:40 P.M. on the American Implement Pregame Show, tip-off is scheduled for 6:00.
