Lady Busters thumped by Dodge City

Dodge City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Garden City Lady Broncbusters were looking to punch their ticket to the Region 6 semi-finals for the first time since 2013 on Tuesday night. Standing in their way were the Dodge City Lady Conquistadors. The last time the Lady Conqs took the floor was 10 days ago, when they were upset by the Lady Busters in Garden City 55-53. Dodge City would turn 22 Garden City turnovers into 34 points, en route to a 92-57 victory to advance to Friday’s Region 6 semi-final at Hutchinson.

The Lady Conqs never trailed in the game, and were tied at two early on. They saw their lead shrink to 12-10 with under four minutes left in the first frame, before an 11-2 run pushed them out to a 23-12 lead after the opening quarter. Garden City was able to get it to 25-16 with 6:57 left before halftime. That was the closest the Lady Busters got the rest of the way. Runs of 12-0 and 7-0 by Dodge City (26-5) in the second period pushed their lead 45-24 at hte break. 

In the second half, the Lady Conqs were albe to extend their lead with a 14-2 run over a three-minute stretch to lead 66-33 with around 3:40 left in the third stanza. Garden City (17-14) trailed by 29 early in the fourth quarter, before another DC3 run of 11-2 extended their lead to 86-48 with a little over six minutes left, and settled ofr the 92-57. The 92 points by Dodge City were the most surrendered by the Lady Busters all season.

Four Lady Conqs reached double figures, as Layla J Cameron poured in 20 points, whil Paris Santacaterina had 19 points, Kyrianna Jones added 17 and Parris Atkins finished with 11 points, as 11 Dodge City players scored. They shot 45% from the field, and finished 28-33 at the charity line.

Garden City got a game-high 24 points from Stevi Yancy in her final game as a Lady Buster, while Ana Ramos Pires and Sierra Driessen had 10 points apiece. The Lady Busters shot 35% for the game and were 14-18 from the foul line. They were outscored 34-18 on points off turnovers and 16-2 on second chance points.

Dodge City will face Butler on Friday evening at 5:30 in the Region 6 semi-finals in Hutchinson. The Lady Grizzlies defeated Seward  County 75-58. Hutchinson disposed of Cloud County 90-56 and Barton defeated Coffeyville 67-43, as the Blue Dragons and Cougars meet up at 1 pm on Friday afternoon.
