Garden City, KS – Garden City Community College split a Wednesday afternoon doubleheader with Colby Community College at Tangeman Sports Complex, pulling away late for an 11–3 win in the opener before Colby responded with a 15–6 victory in Game 2.

The Broncbusters used patience at the plate and a late offensive surge to take the first game, while Colby’s power bats proved to be the difference in the nightcap.

Game 1: Garden City 11, Colby 3

After Colby grabbed an early lead, Garden City steadily chipped away before breaking the game open in the late innings.

The Broncbusters scored single runs in the second and third to stay within striking distance before erupting for five runs in the fifth inning. Garden City added four more in the sixth to put the game out of reach.

Izzy Foster led the offensive effort with a big day at the plate, driving in five runs while collecting a double and triple. Danna Viera added two RBI, while Maiarangi Waipara and Averie Ashford each drove in a run during the rally.

Garden City also worked eight walks and stayed aggressive on the basepaths to keep pressure on the Colby defense.

In the circle, Skylah Breeze Joyce delivered a complete-game performance, allowing five hits and three runs while striking out five to secure the win for the Broncbusters.

Game 2: Colby 15, Garden City 6

Colby jumped on the scoreboard early in the second game and used several big swings to build its lead.

The Trojans plated five runs in the first inning and continued to add on behind five home runs throughout the contest. Garden City answered with two runs in the opening inning and added three more in the fifth to keep battling.

Jade Hendrix paced the Broncbusters offensively, finishing a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate. Maiarangi Waipara drove in three runs, while Danna Viera and Averie Ashford each added an RBI as Garden City collected 11 hits in the game.

Despite the offensive production, Colby’s timely power proved to be the difference as the Trojans evened the doubleheader with the 15–6 win.

The split moves Garden City forward as the Broncbusters continue their early-season schedule.
