Garden City Opens KJCCC Play with Split at Butler

El Dorado, KS – The Garden City Community College Broncbusters opened KJCCC play Thursday afternoon with a split against Butler Community College in a road doubleheader at McDonald Stadium. Garden City exploded offensively in the opener before Butler answered with a high-scoring win in the finale.
Game 1: Garden City 16, Butler 3
The Broncbusters wasted no time taking control of the opener, scoring four runs in the first inning and continuing to add on throughout the afternoon. Garden City finished with 20 hits and four home runs in one of its most complete offensive performances of the season.
Aiden Roberts sparked the early momentum with a home run, while Sean Philpotts led the charge at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a home run and two RBI. Karson Evans delivered four RBI, and Will Togher added three hits and four RBI, including a home run. Roy Higinbotham also recorded three hits and drove in a run as the Broncbusters kept pressure on the Butler pitching staff throughout the game.
On the mound, Sean Togher earned the win, allowing two runs over 4.2 innings while striking out five. Noah Humphreys and Dominic Skjonsberg combined to finish the game as Garden City held Butler to four hits in the 16–3 victory.
Game 2: Butler 15, Garden City 10
The afternoon turned into an offensive battle with both teams trading big innings. Garden City used a seven-run fourth inning to jump in front and held the lead through the middle innings.
Mason Tafoya provided a spark at the top of the lineup, finishing with three runs and a two-run home run. Will Togher added a home run and two RBI, while Aiden Wilson recorded two hits and drove in a run. Sean Philpotts and Cael Hamrick also added RBI as the Broncbusters produced 10 runs on nine hits.
Butler responded with a five-run fourth inning and later added eight runs across the fifth and sixth innings to regain control. The Grizzlies totaled 15 hits, including three home runs, to secure the 15–10 win and split the doubleheader.
With the split, Garden City begins conference play 1–1 and continues to show offensive production throughout the lineup.
