USD 457 Board of Education Meeting Recap March 9, 2026
The Board recognized the Educators Rising Students during the meeting. There are 30 students in the program. Seven students will be going to the national competition in June.
The Board received a building presentation from Jennie Wilson Elementary School. Students from the school led the opening of the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance. Adriana Caro, the school principal, presented the events and activities the school has held during the year.
The Board approved the following items during the meeting. They include minutes of the February 26, 2026, regular meeting. Accounts Payable with all major accounts containing adequate balances to meet current obligations. Personnel certified and classified actions. Out-of-state travel for GCHS Educators Rising to attend their National Event in Portland, Oregon, from June 19th – 24th, 2026.
Under new business, they received a report and approved the recommendation of continuing the 1:1 initiative. There was a presentation on eRate RFPs and bids for 2026. There was a first read on Buffalo Jones playground equipment, wooden gym floors refinishing, and the Jennie Barker Elementary School and Plymell Elementary School controls upgrade.They approved the bond refinancing and Cell Tower Lease. They alsoapproved Alta Brown Elementary School flooring bids, Educational Support Center flooring bids, and 2026-2027 Academic Calendar update.
After the completion of all other business, the Board of Education went into executive session for personnel matters for non-elected personnel. No action was taken after the executive session.
The next meeting of the Board of Education will be on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. in the Board Meeting Room at the Educational Support Center, 1205 Fleming St., Garden City, Kansas.
