USD 457 Board of Education Meeting Recap April 30, 2026

The Garden City Public Schools Board of Education met during a regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, April 30, 2026. The meeting was held in the Educational Support Center Board Room at 1205 Fleming Street. 

The Board approved the following items during the meeting. They include minutes of the April 13, 2026, regular meeting. Accounts Payable with all major accounts containing adequate balances to meet current obligations. Personnel certified and classified actions.

Also approved under the consent agenda were the addition of the following new courses and additional credit to existing courses.  High School – Adding a graduation requirement to an existing course of Oral Communications to Agriculture Leadership and Communications. New high school course offerings of Clothing and Sewing, Teaching Observation, GCCC Criminal Procedures, and GCCC Introduction to Robotics and Embedded Systems.

There was also approval of Florence Wilson Elementary School roofing from Diamond Roofing for $211,000.00. Water heater replacement at Garden City High School from TATRO Plumbing for $118,397.00. Garfield Early Childhood Center HVAC from TATRO Plumbing for $898,127.00. A Memorandum of Understanding between the district and SparkWheel, Inc. for the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 school years for $30,000.00. Also, out-of-state travel for the Jennie Barker Elementary School Robotics team to attend the VEX IQ World Championship in St. Louis, Missouri, April 28–30, 2026.

Under unfinished business, they approved flooring for Jennie Barker Elementary School and Plymell Elementary School. The board approved issuing and selling a new series of General Obligation Refunding Bonds in 2026 for the purpose of refinancing a portion of its existing outstanding bonds. By doing so, the district will reduce the cost of its current debt.

Under new business, they approved Dream First Bank for the Student Funds Account for the 2027 fiscal year. They also approved to appoint Jill Reagle as the district’s authorized Representative for the School Food Service Programs.

The next meeting of the Board of Education will be on Monday, May 11, 2026, at 6:00 PM in the Board Meeting Room at the Educational Support Center, 1205 Fleming St., Garden City, Kansas.
