The Kansas Department of Transportation will close U.S. 83 on Wednesday, May 13, at the Cimarron River bridge located north of Liberal in Seward County for an emergency patch repair.

Increased traffic on the southbound lane due to the ongoing bridge repair project has caused the asphalt to deteriorate, requiring repairs. During the closure, all motorists need to find an appropriate alternative route.

The closure will begin at 8 a.m., and a minimum closure time of 30 minutes is anticipated. However, closure duration will be determined following an assessment of the asphalt conditions. KDOT crews will perform patching work on the southbound lane as the contractor continues work on the northbound lane.

PCI Roads LLC, of St. Michael, Minnesota, is the contractor on this $402,161 project. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by mid-June.

KDOT urges all motorists to remain alert and obey warning signs when approaching and traveling through highway work zones. For information on road construction projects statewide, visit KanDrive.gov or call 5-1-1.
