Three transported to hospital in Finney County accident

Finney County, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–A two-vehicle accident occurred just after 11:30 Saturday night at the intersection of U.S. Highway 83 and East Brookover Road in Finney County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reports a 2020 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by 42-year-old Claudio Delapena, Jr of Garden city was westbound on East Brookover Road, when he failed to yield at the posted stop sign and struck a 2019 F450 driven by 42-year-old Jennifer Leigh Baker of Garden City. Delapena’s vehicle struck the front hood area of the Baker vehicle, causing front impact damage and side damage as the vehicles left the roadway.

Delapena was taken to St. Catherine’s Hospital in Garden City for suspected serious injuries. He was not wearing a seatbelt. Baker and a 10-year-old passenger were also taken to St. Catherine’s Hospital for suspected minor injuries. Another passenger, 48-year-old Brock Monroe Baker, was uninjured.

All three in the Baker vehicle were properly restrained, according to the KHP report.
