Garden City Police Department Renews Efforts to Solve 2012 Cold Case Hit-and-Run Accident

Garden City, Kan.–The Garden City Police Department has renewed efforts to solve a 2012 cold case hit-and-run accident that claimed a Garden City man’s life and asks for the public’s help.

On May 25, 2012, at 10:30 p.m., Officers were dispatched to the intersection of N. Taylor Avenue and Jenny Avenue for a reported injury accident. When they arrived, Officers found a man lying in the road near a Harley Davidson motorcycle. The driver, identified as J37-year-old ohn Beckstrom, sustained a severe head injury and was flown to Via Christi Hospital in Wichita. Information collected by witnesses on scene at the time of the incident indicated this was a hit-and-run accident. The vehicle involved was believed to be a light blue, four-door Honda passenger car that sits low to the ground and possibly had rims.

On June 6, 2012, Beckstrom died from his injuries.

Following the accident, Officers conducted countless interviews and thoroughly investigated tips from CrimeStoppers and social media, but no arrest was ever made.
