Man arrested after reported aggravated assault, outstanding felony warrants
Garden City, Kan.–Garden City Police Officers arrested a man after an aggravated assault involving a man who allegedly threatened a victim with a gun and refused to leave his residence.
Just after midnight Saturday morning, Officers responded to a reported aggravated assault in the 1800 block of E. Laurel Street where a man threatened a victim with a handgun and determined that 29-year-old Gabriel Hernandez, was the suspect. Attempts to contact the victim were unsuccessful, prompting Officers to initiate negotiations and issue loud hails. The victim and several other residents exited the home, but Hernandez remained inside. A search warrant for the residence was obtained and served by the Garden City/Finney County SWAT Team. Hernandez was found hiding in the basement and taken into custody without further incident. Officers located the handgun which turned out to be a BB gun.
Hernandez was lodged in the Finney County Jail for Aggravated Assault, Interference LEO, and multiple outstanding felony warrants. No injuries were reported, and the Kansas Highway Patrol assisted with the incident.
