First Safe Haven Baby Box in western Kansas is in Garden City

Garden City, Kan.–The Garden City Fire Department on Friday announced the first Safe Haven Baby Box in western Kansas will be dedicated.

On Wednesday at 5:00 p.m., the public is invited to the blessing and dedication of our new Safe Haven Baby Box at Station 3, located at 3535 Schulman Ave.

This is the first Safe Haven Baby Box in Western Kansas, providing a secure, anonymous, and compassionate option for parents who may be in crisis. The baby boxes allow a parent who wants to surrender their baby to leave their newborn in a temperature-regulated deposit box. They are typically located at a firehouse.

The first one in Kansas was installed in Hutchinson in 2024, and Salina would install one later.
