Garden City police arrest man in hit-and-run

Garden City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Garden City Police arrested a hit-and-run suspect Saturday night after fleeing a crash and assaulting Officers during the arrest.

Around 10:30 p.m., Officers responded to a reported hit-and-run crash near 4101 E. US Highway 50, learning that a pickup truck was speeding when it struck a tree, and the driver fled the scene on foot. Officers quickly located the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Jorge Cardenas, in the area. When approached, Cardenas attempted to run and became combative as he was apprehended, striking Officers before being taken into custody.

Cardenas was lodged in the Finney County Jail on multiple charges, including Battery LEO, Assault LEO, Interference LEO, Transporting an Open Container, and Duty to Report Accidents. The GCPD released said Officers were okay and carried on with their shift.
