Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Two teams who have one of the biggest rivalries in western Kansas meet up tonight, as the Holcomb Longhorns travel to Scott City to face the Beavers in a game that could play a pivotal role in the district standings.

Holcomb comes in with a 5-0 record and 2-0 in district play, following a 53-24 win over the Colby Eagles at home last Friday. The Longhorns scored on their opening drive, and took a 26-8 lead at the break, and cruised from there to the win. Sophomore running back Chasyn Cosner rushed for 173 yards and two scores in the win, as Holcomb rushed for 225 yards and threw for 183 in the win. Freshman quarterback Ryan Wickwar threw for 178 yards in the win. The defense allowed 298 yards of offense to the Eagles, with 114 coming on the ground. This year, Holcomb is off to their best start since 2022, as they average 37 points and 400 yards of offense, and yield nine points and under 200 yards per contest.

Scott City would lose in heartbreaking fashion, as they fell to Hugoton 17-14 last Friday night in their district opener. They are 3-1 overall and 0-1 in district play. The Beavers trailed 10-0 going into the fourth quarter, before scoring 14 points to take the lead. After they had a field goal attempt blocked, the Eagles would march down the field and convert a 29-yard pass on fourth and goal to stun Scott City. The Beavers outgained Hugoton 263-175 in the game, as Drew Metzger threw for 132 yards and a touchdown pass to Adan Tarango. Cayden Couchman rushed for 67 yards and a score in the loss. This year, the Beavers are under 400 yards and 32 points per game, while giving up eight points and under 200 yards of offense.

Scott City leads the all-time series 21-6, as both teams split last year. The Beavers won 9-0 at Holcomb in the regular season, while the Longhorns took a 10-7 win at Scott City in the playoffs. Scott City has won seven of the last 10 games in the series.

Kickoff from Darner Field is at 7 pm. Pregame coverage begins at around 6:30. You can catch the local broadcasts with Holcomb on AM 1030/107.1 FM KBUF and the Scott City broadcast on KSKL Mix 94.5 and on the Beaver Broadcasting Network, with both audio streams online at westernkansasnews.com.
