Arkansas City Repeats as Rocky Welton Tournament Champions

Garden City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Arkansas City Bulldogs have made two consecutive trips to the Rocky Welton Invitational in as many years. They will also go home tournament champions, hitting 200 points in the one of the state’s toughest tournaments. Taking up the runner-up spot in the 55th annual tournament was newcomer Piedra, Vista, NM with 152 points. Newton, Garden City and Cleveland, NM rounded out the top five. For area teams, Dodge City finished 10th, Scott City 13th, Ulysses 15th, Hugoton 19th, Liberal 25th and Holcomb 29th. Two area wrestlers in the finals were able to be victorious. Scott City’s Alex Kough won the 126-pound division over Newton’s Quentin Harrison 9-3, while Dodge City’s Dane Edwards took the 138-pound title with a win over Jesse Nieto from Cleveland. Cleveland, New Mexico’s Paul Mascarenas was named the Ed Cramer Memorial Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament, after he won the 112-pound weight class.
