Colby wins GWAC Tennis title
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–It was a nice Monday for tennis in Scott City for the annual Great West Activities Conference meet, as the schools involved had one final tuneup for regional competition later in the week.
Colby would win their first-ever GWAC tennis title, outlasting Scott City, while Cimarron and Goodland rounded out the standings.
Scott City would see their doubles teams take the top two spots, as Emilio Alarcon/Brody Stoecklein would win the GWAC title over teammates Brant Powelson/Carson Bennett. Both were named to the All-League squad. Colby took the top two spots in the Singles division, where Tony Jager won over Jack Denny. Denny was voted by the coaches as the GWAC Player of the Year.
Scott City will head to the Class 4A Regional at Buhler on Friday, while Colby is at the 4A Regional in McPherson on Friday. Cimarron heads to the 321A Regional at Conway Springs on Friday, and Goodland is att the 321A Regional at Smoky Valley on Saturday.
