Edith Lorene McDaniel, 91 of Holcomb, Kansas died Monday, September 30, 2013 at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City. She was born March 9, 1922 in Haskell County, Kansas the daughter of Elmer F. & Rowene (Rutledge) Barlow.

Edith moved with her family to Finney County, Kansas in 1931. Edith later moved to Holcomb in 1957 and has lived in Holcomb since. She attended Holcomb schools and graduated from Holcomb High School. She then attended and graduated from the Wilcox Beauty School in Dodge City, Kansas. On April 18, 1940 she married Louis McDaniel in Garden City. Edith worked as a beautician as she owned and operated Holcomb Beauty Nook for twenty-two years. She retired in 1982. Edith was a member of the Holcomb Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder and Sunday School Teacher. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, knitting, ceramics, flowers, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include a daughter Joan Fowler of Garden City, Kansas; a son David McDaniel of Garden City, Kansas; two sisters Leona McDaniel of Alamosa, Colorado and Donna Miller of Apache Junction, Arizona; a brother Donald Barlow of Apache Junction, Arizona; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Edith is preceded in death by her husband Louis who died on March 29, 1996. She is also preceded in death by her parents; five brothers Clyde Barlow, Merle Barlow, Frank Barlow, Gerald Barlow, & LeeRoy Barlow; three sisters Beaulah Barlow, Cledith Crist, & Thelma Odell; and two grandchildren.

Visitation: 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 03, 2013 at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City, Kansas.

Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 04, 2013 at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City with Rev. Denise Pass officiating.

Interment: Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.
