Edward Bemis, Jr., 78 of Lakin, Kansas died Sunday, January 12, 2014 at the Kearny County Hospital in Lakin, Kansas. He was born May 31, 1935 in Lakin, Kansas the son of Edward LaVaughn “Jim” Bemis, Sr. and Theo Leora (Wells) Bemis. 

After graduating from Lakin High School, Edward moved to Liberal, Kansas where he worked at a service station. He later moved to Garden City where he worked for Geier Electric for 17 years. Edward moved back to Lakin and worked for the City of Lakin for 17 years before his retirement. On February 2, 1974, he married Anna Ruth Livingston in Garden City. Edward served as a volunteer fireman in Lakin for many years. He was a member of the Sportsman Lake in Lakin. After retirement, he enjoyed growing gourds and making all kinds of crafts from them. He painted and made the Santa Fe Trail signs for the city in addition to other signs in which he made and painted. He also enjoyed fishing, model trains, the outdoors, riding motorcycles, and spending time with his grandchildren. 

Survivors include a daughter Kimberly Neal & husband Jason of Haysville, Kansas; a son Edward Bemis III and wife Rykki of Lakin, Ks.; 2 brothers Allan Bemis of Lakin, Ks. and Richard Bemis of Buffalo, N.D.; and 6 grandchildren Jarett Neal, Kaylee Neal, Jett Neal, Rylie Bemis, Eli Bemis, and Reed Bemis. Edward is preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers Dean Bemis and Donald Bemis; an infant sister Sharon Elizabeth Bemis and another sister Donna Douglas.

Visitation: Noon to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin, Ks. 

Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 17, 2014 at the Lakin United Methodist Church with Rev. Tod Anthony officiating.

Interment: Lakin Cemetery. 

The family requests memorials given to Beymer Park in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Lakin.
