Garden City Sports Medicine wins KJCCC Sports Medicine Olympics

Hutchinson, KS (Garden City Community College Athletics) – The Garden City Sports Medicine team travelled to Hutchinson this past weekend to participate in the 3rd annual KJCCC Sports Medicine Olympics. Competing against Hutch and Barton Student Athletic Trainers.
At this event they were able to connect with 5 of the 6 Athletic training program in Kansas. KU, KState, Witchita State, Sterling College, and Emporia. The University of St Mary was unfortunate unable to attend.
The students were graded by the combined effort of the 7 representatives of the Student Program Directors. When it came to competition time Garden started off strong with the first 3 events, Taping techniques, Ace Bandaging, and Wound Care. They had commanded a 10 point lead over Hutchison 272 to 262 with Barton scoring 240 after the first 3 rounds. They continued their lead after the final 2 practical portions as well, Immediate Care, and Landmarks & Movements.
Going into Jeopardy Garden led the competition 460 to 446 with Hutchinson close behind and Barton with 421. In Final Jeopardy Garden took the Second which only scored them 75 points, Barton Came fromage behind and took first scoring them 100 points and Hutch took 3rd on adding the smallest awarded points of 50 points, but after adding up the scores Hutchinson fell to 3rd place with 496 point out of 600, Barton upset with 521 over Hutch and Garden continued there dominance with a 534 out of 600 possible points. Garden brought home the trophy the 2nd time in the 3 years these schools have been doing the event.
Garden City Sports Medicine Program hope to continue their year helping athletes compete at their highest potential while ensuring their safety.
