Garden City’s season ends in Great Bend with a 3-0 loss to the Cougars

Garden City, KS (Garden City Community College) – The Broncbusters played against the Barton Community College Cougars in the Region 6 Volleyball Tournament at the Kirkman Center in Great Bend, Kan. on November 9th. The Broncbusters lost in three straight sets, with scores of 25-19, 25-21, and 25-15, ending their season.

Garden City fell behind early in the first set as Barton took control of the game. Julia Brazil made a strong effort, leading her team with four kills in this set. However, the Broncbusters struggled to score. Barton took advantage of this, with Anna Wierzbicki and Kassidy Nixon helping their team win the first set 25-19.

In the second set, Garden City played better and managed to keep the score closer. Carly Lang and Camila Pereira added important points, but Brazil was again the star with six kills. Despite their hard work, Garden City could not catch up to Barton’s strong defense, led by Phoebe Reyes, who scored 13 kills in the match. Barton won the second set 25-21, putting Garden City one set away from elimination.

In the third set, Garden City had a tough time finding their groove as Barton continued to dominate. The Broncbusters could only manage eight kills, while Barton’s team had a total of 39 kills for the entire match. 

For Garden City, Julia Brazil was the standout player, tallying 10 kills and 10.5 points. Carly Lang added 4 kills. The team managed 27 total kills, and recorded 50 digs, with Vitoria Reis leading with 13.

For Barton, Phoebe Reyes led with 13 kills, while Anna Wierzbicki contributed 7 kills. Kassidy Nixon also made a significant impact with 7 kills and 11.5 points. Defensively, the team had a total of 50 digs, with Naya Danenberg leading with 9 digs, and 12 blocks.
