Holcomb (westernkansasnews.com)–An eight-run fourth inning by Holcomb would blow the game wide open for the Lady Longhorns, as they defeated Scott City 11-0 in the Class 3A Regional Quarterfinals in Holcomb in a game that was called after four and a half innings. The Lady Beavers looked like they were going to have the first runs on the board early on in the game, as Audrey Baker led off the game with a base hit, followed by a Kristi Faurot walk. After the first two runners reached base, Scott City would be retired in 12 straight plate appearances. Holcomb scored their first two runs in the bottom of the second inning on a two-out throwing error, and tacked on an additional run in the third to lead 3-0 heading into the fourth inning. In the bottom of the frame, Holcomb would send 13 to bat, scoring eight runs on eight hits, including a string of six straight to start the inning. The Lady Beavers would get the lead-off runner aboard in the top of the fifth on an error, but the lead runner would be forced out at second base for all three outs as the Beavers reached third base one time. Kenzie Roth picked up the win for Holcomb, scattering two hits, striking out four and giving up a walk in five innings pitched.
