In a game that saw six ties and seven lead changes, it would be the Eagles who came up with the big shots down the stretch. The teams would go back and forth early, thanks to hot shooting, as the Beavers would score 10 straight in the first and second quarter to counter Hugoton’s 8-0 run to lead 23-16 in the first minute of the second quarter. Scott City would grow their lead to 30-20 with three minutes left in the half and eventually lead 33-25 at intermission. After the Beavers led 35-25 early in the second half, the Eagles would start chipping away at the deficit. Hugoton (5-8, 2-3 GWAC) used a 10-1 run over the final 4:35 of the third quarter to lead 39-38 heading into the final quarter. It would be Scott City (10-4, 3-4) going on a 10-3 run over the first six minutes to take a 48-42 lead with 2:22 left. However, the Eagles would have other plans. They would close the gap late to get to 48-46 with 24.2 seconds left. The Beavers would hit one of two free throws to lead by three. A Jay Acosta three with 1.4 seconds left would force overtime tied at 49. In the extra session, Scott City grabbed the first two leads, with their final lead at 54-51 with 2:33 left in overtime. Hugoton responded with six straight, including Acosta’s go-ahead three with 57 seconds left to put the Eagles up 57-54. The Beavers came back with a basket to pull to within one, but Hugoton hit two of four free throws, with their last one coming with 2.9 seconds to lead 59-56. A last chance three pointer missed by Scott City, as the Eagles escaped with the three-point win.

Jay Acosta led Hugoton with 28 points and Miguel Hernandez added 14 points, as the Eagles went 6-9 from the free throw line, and commmitted 15 turnovers. Scott City got 22 points from Jackson Rumford, and 12 points apiece from Eloy Ruelas and Alex Tarango, as the Beavers also went 6-9 from the foul line and had 13 turnovers.

With the win, Hugoton has won nine of 11. Scott City still leads the series 41-34 since 1989. The Eagles snapped a three-game losing streak, their longest since 2019-20.
