USD 457 Board of Education Meeting Recap June 8, 2026

Garden City Public Schools Board of Education met during a regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, June 8, 2026. The meeting was held at the Educational Support Center Board Room, 1205 Fleming Street. 

The Board received a presentation from the Virtual Academy. Diane Elliott, program director for the school, provided a presentation on what the school is about and the statistics of the school.

The Board approved the following items during the meeting. They include minutes of the May 26, 2026, regular meeting. Accounts Payable with all major accounts containing adequate balances to meet current obligations. Personnel certified and classified actions. 

They also approved the following 2026-2027 handbooks: Curriculum Council Handbook, Elementary Student Handbook, ESOL Handbook, Garfield Early Childhood Center Student/Parent Handbook, GC Achieve Student Handbook, GCHS Student/Parent Handbook, Intermediate Student Handbook, Middle Schools Student-Parent Handbook, Special Education Process and Procedural Handbook, Therapeutic Education Program Handbook, Transportation Student Handbook, Virtual Academy Adult Handbook, and Virtual Academy Student Handbook.

The Board received a report on the long-range facilities plan. They also received a report on the district finances. 

Under new business, there was a first read of the following items: Curriculum Council item; High School Project Search. Replacing the control system for the nets and goals in the gyms at Garden City High School. Service order #10 for the Kenneth Henderson Middle School expansion. Service Order #11 for the security vestibule remodels at Bernadine Sitts Intermediate Center and Charles Stones Intermediate Center. Service Order #12 for the Jennie Wilson Elementary School remodel. A new Board of Education Policy JCDBC Student Personal Electronic Communications Devices. A new Board of Education Policy IIBGC Staff Online Activities. Adoption of the 2027-2028 District Calendar. They approved the revisions to the Discipline Policy.

The Board held an executive session after the completion of all other business. The executive session was for matters relating to employer-employee negotiations, whether or not in consultation with the

representative or representatives of the body or agency.  No action was taken after the executive session.

The next meeting of the Board of Education will be on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 5:00 PM in the Board Meeting Room at the Educational Support Center, 1205 Fleming St., Garden City, Kansas.
