Hays, KS-Finney County 19 and under baseball finished the Hays tournament 4-1 and lost to eventual champion McCook, Neb 6-1 in the semifinals.

Finney County took the lead over McCook when Cooper Thayer scored on a passed ball in the fourth. But they lost it in the sixth thanks to an error, a wild pitch and an RBI ground out, which put them in a four-run hole. McCook added another run when Kaden Tichenor walked a man with the bases loaded in the seventh.

On Friday, Garden City shutout Norton 8-0 before beating Hays 10-2 and Canon City 12-4 on Saturday. Tichenor’s sacrifice fly and Thayer’s RBI fielder’s choice was all that Finney County needed to beat the Kansas Cannons 2-0 in Saturday’s finale.

Finney County closes the season this weekend in Colorado Springs, CO.
