Russell Theodore Kells

Russell Theodore Kells slipped away from this life into the arms of Jesus on January 5th, 2016, at The Shepherd’s Center, Cimarron, Kansas.
Russell was born on October 15, 1924, in rural Grant County, Kansas, at the home of his maternal grandparents.
He was raised on the Robert Fulton Kells homestead in northwest Haskell County, Kansas, and lived at that location until 2008 when he moved to The Shepherd’s Center.
He married Rose Marie Snavely on August 18, 1945. She preceded him in death in 2002. To this married four children were born—Karolyn J. Kells (deceased in 2012), Donald D. Kells, Darcy L. Kells and Kristi R. Kells Cole. Donald married Linda Pritchard, Darcy married Pam Brown and Kristi married Jimmy L. Cole.
Russell and Marie were blessed with Jason, Brandy, Nathan, Vance, Koren, Ryan, Dava, Justin and Janessa as grandchildren. His grandchildren have full, wonderful memories of their grandpa and the things that they did together. Russell and Marie were also blessed with 13 great-grandchildren with another one on the way this spring.
Russell spent his working years teaching his children and grandchildren how to ride horses, work cattle, plant and harvest crops while also managing to have a lot of fun along the way. It was always said by Marie that Russell never met a stranger. He was known to drag anyone, friend OR stranger, home for a meal when that person was found anywhere close to their home and Russell thought it was time to eat.
What his family will remember and treasure about him the most was his deep love of Jesus as his Savior and also his great love for Marie. He has really missed Marie since she passed and talked often about going to be with Jesus, His Savior, and his wife. They are together now—enjoying the presence of Christ and waiting for the rest of their family to someday join them.
The going home celebration for Russell will be held at Bible Christian Church, 1404 E Mary, Garden City, Kansas, on Friday, January 8th 1:30 p.m. with Vance Kells presenting the remembrances of Russell and Darrin Hammond officiating.
Interment will be at the Haskell Country Cemetery following the service in Garden City.
The family requests memorials given to The Shepherd’s Center and to Christians United for Israel both in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City.
