Update: Wildfire West of Ashland

Ashland, KS(westernkansasnews.com) Just before noon Monday a wildfire started five miles west of Ashland. The fire began north of highway 160 and quickly jumped the highway.

Highway 160 closed briefly due to smoke, but has now been reopened. The Kansas Forestry Service is on scene and providing ground and air support. The current size of the fire is estimated at 1,000 to 2,000 acres.

The cause of the fire stemmed from a vehicle catching on fire. As of 5 p.m. the fire was mostly contained according to Allison Kuhns, Pubic Information Officer for Clark County.
