Scott City sixth at Maroon & Gold Invitational

Hays, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Scott City Lady Beaver volleyball team saw a big early season test in front of them Saturday at the Maroon & Gold Invitational in Hays on Saturday. After starting the day off with two losses, the Lady Beavers would win two straight, and end up finishing sixth with a 2-3 record for the day.

Their pool play opener was against Hays High. The Lady Beavers struggled early on and dropped their first set 25-10. They were competitive in the second set, but Hays would pull away for a 25-16 win.

A quick turnaround would put them against Maize South, who has three Division 1 volleyball commits on their team. It would be a tough match to get any momentum for Scott City, as the Lady Mavericks would take a 25-5, 25-8 win.

In their final match of pool play, the Lady Beavers faced TMP Marian. A tightly-contested match would see Scott City prevail 25-20, 25-23, to finish third in pool play.

In bracket play, Scott City opened up with Colby. The Lady Beavers would prevail 25-20, 25-20, and set up a rematch with the Lady Moncharchs in the fifth place match.

The final match of the day would be a good one. TMP picked up the opening set 25-17, but Scott City would force a third set by taking the second set 25-23. However, the Lady Monarchs would take the final set 25-21.

Maize South would win the tournament, after they defeated Beloit in three sets in the semi-finals, and knocked off Olathe West in three sets in the championship match, taking the third set 25-23.

Megan Trout was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Scott City will have time off, before their home opener on Tuesday, September 5, with a triangular against Goodland and Ulysses.
