Lady Demons Leave No Room for Error, Crush Ulysses

DODGE CITY, KS. – The Lady Demons brought in their holiday break in style.

Dodge City brought a performance that was enjoyable as it was determined, as fun as it was fundamental. A brilliant display on both sides of the ball.

The Dodge City Red Demons rolled against the Ulysses Tigers, winning 53-23, on Tuesday night at The Fieldhouse. The Red Demons led by a commanding 19 points at the break to cruise to their largest win of the season.

“I felt like we were a little bit more aggressive today,” head coach Kelley Snodgrass said following the victory. “I’m pleased at how they didn’t ever stop.”

Dodge City had made just one three-pointer in their loss to Wichita Northwest on Saturday. The Red Demons swished four threes in the first quarter alone, starting the night six-of-seven from downtown to balloon into a 15-point lead.

Dodge City (2-4) entered the game shooting just 22.4% from beyond the arch, and kept things rolling in the second. Senior guard Ashlyn Lembright knocked down three triples in the first half.

Lembright finished with a season-best nine in the win.

“Ash is an elite shooter,” Snodgrass said. “We said to feed the beast, get the ball back to her. She just has to be confident.”

Five different Lady Demons got on the scoreboard in the first 16 minutes, led by senior forward Easha Potts’ 11 points. Potts went a perfect four-of-four in the first half, as the Lady Demons controlled a 33-14 halftime advantage.

Ulysses (0-7) struggled with turnovers throughout their second half. The Tigers failed to score in the third frame, turning the ball over nine times. Potts and freshmen guard Emily Gutierrez combined for 13 of Dodge’s 15 points in that frame.

“I challenged them at halftime to focus on defense, and they did to a tee,” Snodgrass said. “They were very active, we got some steals.”

Gutierrez finished with a season-best 16 points, Potts closed with 19 points and nine rebounds. Dodge City won the second half, 20-9.

The Lady Demons restart their schedule on January 2nd against Garden Plain, the second of a four-game home stand. Coverage on Z98 begins at 5:10 P.M. with the Sutherland’s Pregame Show, tip-off is slated for 5:30.
