Lexington girls, Norton boys take J.R. Durham Invitational titles

Norton, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The first tournament post break took place for several schools on Friday and Saturday in Norton at the J. R. Durham Invitational wrestling tournaments for the girls and boys.

Friday saw the girls take the mats, as Lexington’s depth would prevail them over Norton. Oakley was third and Scott City placed fifth. Scott City had one champion, with Audrey Escalona taking the 105-pound weight class. Haylie McDaniel at 105 placed second, while Amaya Parker at 120 and Brodi Speer at 135 placed fourth. Plainville’s Hayden Staab was the tournament’s Outstanding Wrestler, as she was the winner at 135.

It was boys turn on the mat on Saturday. Norton defended the home mats, winning the tournament over MCL foe Smith Center. Council Grove, a newcomer to the tournament, placed third. Beloit’s Brogan Monty was voted the Outstanding Wrestler, winning the tournament at 138.
