Buster Baseball Improves to 5-2

Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) The Garden City Community College Baseball team won their fourth in a row and started out the season 5-2 beating Frank Phillips (TX) 7-2 yesterday at Williams Stadium on the GCCC Campus. The Broncbusters had two wind aided hits in the first inning on Tyler Tucker’s leadoff double to right and Tyler Alitz’s follow up RBI triple to left. 1st baseman Rocky DeSantis added an RBI single one batter later to give Garden a 2-0 lead.

Frank Phillips’s starting pitcher Addison Russ gave up another run in the 4th on a Jaxon Mohr’s RBI single to center. Russ would go 5 1/3 innings and surrender four earned runs on seven hits. It did not get any easier for Plainsman reliever Trevor Rowlett who allowed three more runs and five hits in 1 2/3 innings. Garden City would score three more runs in the sixth to essentially put the game away on a RBI single from second baseman Zach Barton and two run single from centerfielder Tyler Tucker.

Broncbuster starting pitcher Dalton Shalberg picked up his first win in going five shutout innings and only allowing two singles. Through his first ten innings this season, Shalberg only only given up two runs. Brook Trujilo came on in relief and faced the minimum nine batters in three innings and only one base runner that was erased on a double play to end the seventh. Frank Phillips score two runs in the ninth when the game was well out of hand.

For the game GCCC centerfielder Tyler Tucker went 2-5, R , 2 RBI; shortstop Tyler Aulitz finished a homer short of the cycle, scoring twice with one RBI; 1st baseman Rocky DeSantis went 2-3 with a double and 2 RBI; Jaxon Mohr and Zach Barton also chipped in with RBI singles.  All toll Garden City outhit Frank Phillips 12-4 and the Plainsman did not score until the ninth inning. 

Garden City hits the road for the first time to play Rose State Saturday in Midwest City, Oklahoma and travels to Borger, TX a week from Wednesday to meet Frank Phillips at their place.
