City of Dodge City announces the microchipping of all cats and dogs

Dodge City, Kansas–At the City of Dodge City Commission Meeting #5309 held on Monday, May 5, the City Commission passed Ordinance No. 3827, which establishes a new requirement for microchipping all cats and dogs registered within the City limits of Dodge City.
With the adoption of this ordinance, all individuals registering their pets within the city will now be required to have their animals microchipped. The microchips are a safe and non-invasive method of identification, providing an efficient way to track and reunite lost pets with their owners. This simple process involves inserting a tiny microchip, roughly the size of a grain of rice, under the animal’s skin, usually between the shoulder blades. The microchip does not cause harm and is not a tracking device, but instead contains important information such as the owner’s contact details.
Microchipping also helps local animal shelters and animal control services by providing a reliable form of identification when animals are found or brought in. The ordinance not only enhances pet recovery but also supports responsible pet ownership throughout the community.
The City of Dodge City encourages all pet owners to take advantage of this new regulation to ensure their pets are protected. The cost of microchipping varies depending on location. After researching several places that offer the service, the price ranges from $40.00 to $83.00. Pet owners can contact local veterinarians or animal care facilities to learn more about microchipping and find the nearest locations offering this service.
For more information about the new ordinance or any questions related to pet registration, residents are encouraged to contact the Dodge City Animal Control at (620)225-1567 or visit them in person located at 104 N 14th Avenue.
