Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) Recently it has been a hard thing for Garden City Community College. If only they had one more hit, one more run or made one more pitch then this slide can turn itself around. Unfortunately they did not find what they were looking for Sunday as Colby swept the doubleheader at Williams Stadium in Garden City 4-3 and 9-7.

Game one. Colby came back from 2-1 down in the seventh with three runs and then held off Garden City to win the first game 4-3. The game ended on Tyler Alitz’s groundout with the bases loaded. For Garden City its was the third time in the last five games their opponent won in their final at-bat. Broncbuster closer Josh Thomas fell short of nailing down his second save when Trojan second baseman Grant Buchanan doubled in two with one out to give Colby a 3-2 lead. GCCC starting pitcher Chris Bonk fell just short of improving his record to 5-0. Bonk pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up one earned run on five hits.

Game two. Garden City could not outhit Colby beating the Broncbusters 9-7. GCCC starting pitcher Brooks Trujillo was knocked out in the fourth inning after allowing six runs, four earned. Colby starter Joshua Jones gave up five runs in the second, but he settled down and only gave up one run through the rest of his outing. Fily Perez and Grant Buchanan had two RBIs in the win. Jeromy Denton pitched the final three innings for his first save. Tyler Tucker had two triples and went 3-for-5 with 2 runs scored in the loss.

For Garden City they fall two games behind Colby in the Jayhawk West for fourth place falling to 14-16 overall and 7-9 in conference. The top four teams get to host a game in the first round of the conference playoffs. Garden City is back at home Wednesday when they host Lamar.
