Garden City, KS (www.westernkansasnews.com) – In just one year as a running back at Garden City Community College, Frank Murphy from Jacksonville, Florida broke nearly all the records on the Football field and achieved All-American status and became the KJCCC Player of the year and now becomes a Broncbuster Hall of Famer. In addition to Murphy, Shelly Meier, Jason Roach and Todd Tichenor will also be inducted on Saturday eveing at the Dennis Perryman Athletic Complex. Murphy was recruited by Bill Snyder at Kansas State University in 1998 and had a stellar two year stint for the Wildcats. In 2000 Murphy was drafted by the Chicago Bears, then traded to the Tampa Buccaneers followed by another stop with Houston Texans 2002, then back to the Buccaneers in 2004 and finally closed out his NFL career with the Miami Dolphins in 2006. Over the next four years Murphy would make several stops with Canadian Football League teams before retiring in 2011. Since that time he has developed his own company, wrote a book and makes many public appearances through his work and holds youth Football clinics, such as the one he will present on Saturday morning at Memmorial Stadium from 9:30 to noon, and will be assisted by the Coaching staff at GCCC including Matt Miller, Jeff Kelly and Joe Gordon all former Kansas State Wildcats. The “FREE” youth Football clinic is for first grade through 12 grade students. I sat down with Frank Murphy before the Hall of Fame Induction ceremony and we visited about his life after arriving in Garden City in 1997.
