Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com)  The Broncbusters move on to Wednesday’s second round of the region VI women’s basketball tournament in Wichita by holding on to a 72-69 win over upstart LaBette Saturday. LaBette had a final opportunity to tie the game and force overtime, but missed on both their three point attempts.

Shaqunna Collins led all scorers with 24 points and 10 rebounds and hit 10 of her 12 shots from the field. Sandra Davis had eight points and nine rebounds. Broncbuster guard Monica Veleta connected for three 3-points in the first half and finished with nine points.

Despite missing Zantaya Davis because of a death in the family, Garden City still outrebounded LaBette 45-40. Labette kept in the game by hitting 18/23 free throws. The Broncbusters struggled from the free throw line hitting 19/36 for a little over 50 percent. Three players scored in double figure for the Cardinals led by Brittany Odom and Crash Davis who each scored 15 points.

Garden City will play either Coffeyville or Dodge City in the second round of the region VI basketball tournament Wednesday at the Koch Arena in Wichita. Garden is 1-1 versus Dodge this year and has not met Coffeyville.
