Holcomb sweeps Colby

The Holcomb Lady Longhorns slowly, but inexorably, pulled away from the Colby Eagles Friday night, leading by 4 after one quarter, by 8 at halftime, by 15 after 3 quarters and finally winning by 21. Colby’s Haleigh Shull led the Eagles with 17 points, but nobody else scored in double figures for them, while three Longhorns cracked double figures, led by Haley Heydman with 23, Taylor Deniston with 17 and Kylee Amos with 10. Jordan Jarnigan was back after sitting out two games with the lingering effects of a concussion and she added 8 points for Holcomb. The Lady Longhorns improve to 14-2 on the year, 6-1 in GWAC play and maintain a first place tie with Hugoton. Holcomb will host Garden City Saturday night in a Finney County showdown, with tip-off at 6:30.

 

Longhorns 72         Eagles 40

Holcomb steadily pulled away from Colby in boys’ basketball Friday night, turning an 11 point halftime lead into a 32 point blowout. Coach Chad Novack was able to clear his bench in the fourth quarter as the Longhorns coasted to their 13th victory of the year. Three Longhorns finished in double figures, led by Trey Sleep’s 17 points. Heath Tucker added 15 and Conner Van Cleave tossed in 14. The Longhorns improve to 13-3 on the season, 6-1 in conference play and a first-place tie with the Scott City Beavers. Saturday night, Holcomb will host Garden City, following the girls’ game.
