Lady Beaver softball ends season in Goodland

Goodland, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–It was a tough Monday for the Scott City Lady Beaver softball team, as they took on the Colby Lady Eagles in the opening round of the Class 3A Regional tournament at Ray Dye Field in Goodland. Both teams would battle 35-40 mph wind gusts throughout.
The Lady Eagles would score in three of their four at bats and take a 13-1 win over Scott City in 4 1/2 innings to advance to Wedesday’s regional semi’s.
Scott City scored the first run of the game in the top of the first, when Crissa Irvin led off with a walk, and later scored on a passed ball. It was all Colby after that. In the bottom of the first, the Lady Eagles would plate three runs and take a 3-1 lead into the second frame. The Lady Beavers would get their lone hit in the top of the second. Colby would open up the game in the bottom of the second. With the bases loaded and one out, Ryler Carter would see the first pitch of her at bat and drill it over the left field fence for a grand slam to take a 9-1 lead into the third.
Following a scoreless third, the Lady Eagles extedended their lead with four more runs in the fourth, and retired the final seven batters of the game to win in 4 1/2 innings 13-1.
Ryler Carter got the win in the circle for Colby, giving up an unearned run on one hit with seven strikeouts. She also had four RBI, all coming on the grand slam. Madison Hull had three hits for the Lady Eagles. Scott City got their lone hit of the game from Audrina Ortiz in the second inning. Baylee Wolkensdorfer gave up 13 runs, 12 earned, on nine hits and had one strikeout.

Scott City ends their season at 7-14. Colby improved to 15-6 on the year, and will take on Cimarron/Ingalls in the semis on Wednesday. The Lady Bluejays defeated Haskell County 17-5 in the opening game of the tournament. Goodland defeated Lakin 2-1 in the third quarterfinal game, and will face Southwestern Heights on Wednesday.
