Lady Beavers fall in regional final
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Regional softball competition would be moved up a day due to the threat of rain on Thurday. On Wednesday, Scott City would play host to the regional semis and finals with a trip to the Class 3A State Tournament on the line on Monday. The Lady Beavers would fall short in the finals 13-2 to Colby, after rallying for a 10-9 win in the semi finals over Ellis/Quinter
Scott City 10, Ellis/Quinter 9
It was Ellis/Quinter who drew first blood in the top of the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead. The Lady Beavers responded with a lead off solo home run from Crissa Irvin. They would go scoreless until the bottom of the fourth, when they pulled to within 4-3 on a Riley Suppes two-run home run. Ellis/Quinter got two runs back in the top of the fifth, thanks to a two-run home run from Braelyn Blackwill to lead 6-3. Scott City responded with three runs in the bottom of the sixth, as Hayla Edwards tied the game on a passed ball. With two outs in the top of the seventh, the Lady Railers took advantace of a pair of errors, scoring three runs, highlighted by a two-run blast by Lyla Zimmerman to give them the lead back. Trailing 9-6, the Lady Beavers rallied in their final at bat. Tied with one out in the seventh, Suppes scored on a passed ball for Scott City’s only lead of the game, and sent them to the finals with a 10-9 win. Eight of the nine runs for Ellis/Quinter came with two outs.
Baylee Wolkensdorfer went all seven innings in the circle, giving up nine runs, just four earned, on nine hits with seven strikeouts. Adalei Zeller and Riley Suppes each had two hits and two RBI.. Lyla Zimmerman took the loss for Ellis/Quinter, surrendering 10 runs, five earned, on 10 hits with nine strikeouts. She had two hits and drove in two runs, while Braelyn Blackwill drove in three runs.
Ellis/Quinter ended their season at 15-11.

Colby 13, Scott City 2
This game was close for the first four innings. Then an eruption of hits by the Lady Eagles came in the fifth. Colby started the game with a Morgan Hills home run on the second pitch of the game to lead 1-0 through the first 2 1/2 innings. in the bottom of the third, it was Clara Wolkensdorfer hitting a two-run shot over the right field fence to give the Lady Beavers the 2-1 lead. That score held up until the fifth, when Colby sent 12 to bat, scoring six runs to build a 7-2 lead. The Lady Eagles continued their hitting barrage with three runs in the sixth and seventh innings, en route to a 13-2 win.
Ryler Carter picked up the win, going the distance, giving up two runs on seven hits with three strikeouts. Morgan Hills had four hits and two runs driven in and was a triple shy of the cycle. Kenley Moss had three hits with two RBI, while Elli McCarty had two hits and drove in four runs. Scott City’s Riley Suppes took the loss, giving up 13 runs, nine earned, on 15 hits with nine strikeouts. Baylee Wolkensdorfer had two hits, while Clara Wolkensdorfer had both runs driven in.

Scott City closed out their season at 21-6. The 21 wins are the most in a season in school history, and the third time in the last six seasons they’ve accomplished 20 wins.
Colby is 21-5 and will be in the Class 3A State Tournament on Monday. It will be their second consecutive trip to state. They defeated Beloit 10-4 in the first semi final of the day on Wednesday.
