Lady Buffs swim team secures 19th place finish at state

Garden City, Kan. (Western Kansas News) – The Lady Aqua Buffs competed over the weekend at the 6A state swim meet in Topeka, securing a 19th place finish.

Notable performances for the team included a 14th place finish in the 200 free relay (Meng, E. Sekavec, R. Sekavec, and West) with a time of 1:49.20, and a 14th place finish in the 400 free relay, utilizing the same core swimmers, who finished in 4:03.22.

Of significance at the meet, Brylee West, who qualified for Saturday’s B final in the 100-yard breaststroke, was disqualified for a dolphin kick violation. Head Coach Jennifer Meng expressed disappointment for West, saying she didn’t see the infraction herself.

The swim squad finished 19th overall at the state championships after scoring 14 team points.
