Dodge City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) After both candidates for Dodge City commission received 424 votes, state statute says the winner of the third seat between Kent Smoll and Joe Peters is determined by a drawing.  Monday Smoll’s name was drawn out of a hat. He will serve a two year term.

Peters was disappointed, with the outcome but beyond that he wants more people involved and even interested.

Peters thinks turnout would increase if the time of year to hold local elections is changed.

Only twenty votes separated the top four candidates.
