McPherson wins Scott City tennis regional; seven area athletes qualify for state

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–It was a great Saturday for tennis on Saturday at the Class 4A Regional tennis meet held at the tennis courts at Scott City Middle School. While the temperatures warmed to around 80 degrees in the afternoon, the play was competitive on the court.
The McPherson Bullpups would take the regional title, as they swept the top spots, finishing with 25 points. Scott City, along with McPherson, would qualify all six players to state, as the Beavers had 17 points, while Concordia was third.
McPherson’s Cooper Bohme would outlast teammate Owen Neighbors in three sets in the regional championship in the Singles, while the Doubles saw Bryson Archer/Alex Berger defeat Scott City’s Brody Strine/Brody Stoecklein in the finals. Scott City also got a fourth place finish from Reed Batterton in Singles and fourth from the Dobules team of Carson Bennett/Brant Powelson. Jace Miller in Singles placed sixth. Ulysses would qualify Singles player Nicholas Martinez, who placed fifth.
The Class 4A State Tennis Meet will take place Friday and Saturday at the T.H. Vaughan Tennis Center in Winfield.
